Regaining your smile with dental implants: All-on-Five case at Dental Lux

The clinical case: advanced tooth and bone loss

The patient presented with tooth loss and advanced bone resorption in both the upper and lower jaws. Given this diagnosis, a comprehensive treatment plan was designed to restore her chewing function, aesthetics, and confidence in her smile.

Treatment planning: why All-on-Five?

Full arch treatments can be supported on 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 implants, depending on each patient’s condition.
In this specific case, it was decided to perform a full upper arch on five implants, a technique known as All-on-Five.

Surgical procedure and immediate results

  • The five implants were placed with sufficient torque to allow immediate loading.
  • In less than 24 hours, the patient received a fixed temporary prosthesis on the implants.
  • The aesthetic and functional result was highly satisfactory, which generated great satisfaction for both the patient and the clinical team.

Postoperative follow-up

The postoperative period for this technique requires rigorous monitoring:

  • During the first 15 days, the patient attended laser therapy sessions almost daily, which promoted healing and reduced inflammation.
  • X-rays were taken to assess the integration of the implants and the correct positioning of the prosthesis.

Second stage: permanent prosthesis

After a period of four months of healing and bone integration, the placement of the final fixed prosthesis on the five previously installed implants is planned.

All-on-4, All-on-5, All-on-6: what is the difference?

Technically, the procedure is known as All-on-X, where the “X” corresponds to the number of implants that the professional determines according to the needs of each patient.

  • All-on-4: full arch on 4 implants.
  • All-on-5: full arch on 5 implants.
  • All-on-6: full arch on 6 implants.

All these variants are encompassed within the same treatment philosophy: rehabilitating a complete arch with the optimal number of implants to achieve stability, function, and aesthetics.

What is Full Arch treatment?

It is a fixed restoration of a complete arch supported by dental implants (All-on-4, All-on-5, or All-on-6), chosen according to the patient’s needs.

What is the difference between All-on-4, All-on-5, and All-on-6?

In the number of implants that support the prosthesis. The professional determines the optimal number to achieve stability, function, and aesthetics.

What does “immediate loading” mean?

It means that a fixed temporary prosthesis (e.g., in PMMA) is placed within 24–48 hours, restoring aesthetics and function while healing occurs.

When is the final prosthesis placed?

Generally after 4–6 months, when the implants have osseointegrated correctly and everything is stable.

Who is a candidate for Full Arch?

Patients with severe or total tooth loss in one arch who are looking for a fixed, functional, and aesthetic solution, following clinical and tomographic evaluation.
